I’m on a quest to develop healthier habits but one area that I still fall down is in my coffee consumption. In this post i’ll cover reasons why coffee is bad for you. It really is an addiction I’m trying to break. Coffee shops are my blissful place but coffee isn’t great for you and can cause so many issues. Such as:
Reasons why coffee is bad for you
- Coffee increases your stress hormones. It increases insulin production and in turn insulin increases inflammation which can make you feel lethargic and horrible.
- Caffeine also decreases insulin sensitivity, increasing blood sugar. And of course we know higher blood sugar levels increase your risk of heart disease.
- Coffee can be linked with digestive issues, indigestion and heart burn. Which are all uncomfortable and in some case painful.
- Can cause electrolyte imbalance which can impact your health.
- Can interfere with the liver flushing toxins from the body.
How to Avoid Withdrawal Symptoms
Drink lots of water (ideally 2 litres daily). Replace your morning coffee with lemon slices in hot water. This concoction is great for your overall health too.
Headaches are a common side effect. Sounds gross but empty your bowels regularly to stave these off.
Make sure you get plenty of sleep, minimum 8 hours per night.
Do some exercise. A quick gym session should help alleviate those withdrawal symptoms.
Visit a sauna for a spot of R&R.
Try a spot of meditation. You can find my beginners guide here.
