As part of my fitness drive I decided to get back into cycling. Luckily my work was running a cycle 2 work scheme which saved me 40% and allowed me to divide the payments over 12 months. It is a great scheme! I opted for Victoria Pendleton Somerby in Red. So, here are my thoughts after a few weeks of use.

The Pendleton Somerby is a Dutch style bike, aesthetically pleasing and it comes in a variety of colours. The Pendleton range has been engineered exclusively for women. And this bike is very girly which may not suit everyone but it was a selling point for me.
Pendleton was set up in 2012 by olympian Victoria Pendleton just after the London Olympics. The range is exclusive to Halfords. Victoria’s motivation was to create a range that would appeal to women and encourage more of them to get into cycling.
The Pendleton Somerby is an upright style bicycle. The bike is a hybrid so it is mostly suitable for commuting and city rides. It isn’t suitable for mountain biking or rough terrains.
The bike is beautiful and comes in mint green, red, white and it also has a leather tan saddle and tan handlebar grips. I loved the tan effect – the handlebars are easy to grip and feel nice in the hands and the seat is really comfy even for longer rides. The width of the saddle was perfect for me as my rear is on the wider side (thanks mom). The saddle utilises springs for additional comfort and the seat weathers bumps in the road well. Extra accessories are available for purchase I bought the basket and the coffee cup holder which have both proven to be useful. The bell comes as standard.
Performance wise this bike did well. It gave me a smooth ride and its lightweight frame allows you to glide along at a good speed. The built-in chain guard avoids your trousers getting caught because who wants to spoil a decent pair of trousers. The seat sits quite high providing you with a good clear view of the road. The luggage rack is ideal for strapping your briefcase or handbag to and is also perfect for a bike ride to and from the supermarket.
Mudguards are provided as standard. The bike has 7 gears, I’ve only needed to use three of them so far though. 7 is ample for tackling those city streets. Gear changes are very smooth.
So I can happily say that the Somerby has me impressed. This bike is the perfect choice for the casual or newbie cyclist or women commuter.
